KSTU has held an international online seminar "Space Bridges 2.0" together with the Swedish University of Uppsala

The concept of "Space Bridges" was an early form of telecommunication between two geographic points that was implemented between the United States and the Soviet Union in the early 1980s. It was a lot like video conferencing, except the fact that today we use the Internet.

The Baltic University program introduced this technology during the period 1990-1995, when a series of online lectures and seminars were held in various locations in the region. These "Space Bridges" were one of the main activities in the early history of BUP and served as the basis for its logo – satellite.

The modern version of "Space Bridges 2.0", timed to coincide with the upcoming 30th anniversary of the "Baltic University" program, has been implemented in the form of an international scientific seminar entitled "Interdisciplinary solutions to sustainable development of the Baltic region", organized by the International Office of KSTU, the National Program Center and Uppsala University.

The seminar was moderated by KSTU, co-moderated by the University of Uppsala. The speakers were teachers, undergraduates, postgraduate students of KSTU, I. Kant BFU, Russian State Medical University (St. Petersburg), Aegean University (Greece).

Among the speakers from KSTU were: Honorary Doctor of KSTU Nikitas Nikitakos, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical Equipment of Ships and Electric Power Engineering of KSTU Andrey Nikishin, Master degree student of the Department of Food Biotechnology Yulia Nekrasova.

The speakers made presentations on the topics of wind energy, sustainable coastal development, developments in the field of food biotechnology. The presentations sparked a lively discussion. The event was attended by 65 people.

In the near future, the seminar will be available on YouTube.
