On Russia Day, a regatta for the Captains’ Cups of the barques Kruzenstern and Sedov took place on the territory of the City-Port; it was dedicated to the anniversaries of these legendary sailing training ships. On 23 March this year, the training ship Sedov celebrated its 105th anniversary, and on 23 June, the training ship Kruzenshtern will mark its 100th anniversary.

Before the regatta began, participants and guests had the opportunity to view a photo exhibition featuring episodes from the lives of the sailing ships’ crews, captured by Anastasia Radyuk, a member of the KSTU press service, Valery Pritchenko, a crew member of the Kruzenshtern, Vasily Semidyanoff and other Kaliningrad photographers.

Before the race began, an opening ceremony was held at the venue, where renowned yachtsmen and the administration of Kaliningrad State Technical University addressed the yacht crews and guests.

On this festive day, 17 yachts from various clubs in the Kaliningrad region set sail. Among the participants were yachtsmen from the Ost-West club—graduates and former staff members of the BFFSA—who had worked or had practical training on the famous barque at various times. The organisers and participants of the first Kruzenstern Cup regatta, held in 2002 in Pionersky, were among them.

The race consisted of two rounds, with the first contested for the Sedov Cup and the second for the Krusenstern Prize. The Nika yacht crew secured victory in the first stage, and the Odyssey crew triumphed in the second.

The winners’ award ceremony took place in the afternoon at the City-Port. The race’s challenge trophies—figures of the sailing ships made of amber, cups, and medals—went to the winners and runners-up.
