From 18 to 29 May, Kaliningrad State Technical University hosted a large-scale professional advancement training programme. The course participants were experts from customs laboratories in Vladivostok, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Kaliningrad.

The central topic of the classes was Identification of Amber and Amber Products. The training took place at the Chemistry Department and the Chemical and Analytical Resource Centre of KSTU – the university’s leading specialised platforms on this subject.

During the course, the participants studied the training materials in detail, discussed issues relating to amber biotechnology, learnt about the extraction and nuances of processing the sun stone in practice, and carefully examined the entire range of amber products on display.

KSTU students' participation particularly interested the customs officers. The students shared their amber research results for presentation at the upcoming international conference of customs experts in Kazan this summer. This collaborative approach allows practising experts and researchers to exchange experiences and identify areas for further research.

The completed training once again confirmed KSTU’s unique status as a leading scientific and educational centre in amber research and expertise.
