We are announcing the results of the Looking beyond the Horizon contest
The final round of the Looking Beyond the Horizon competition took place on May 21st at the student scientific society space.
All finalists demonstrated a high level of research. But the grand prize—a trip to the IX GLOBAL FISHERY FORUM & SEAFOOD EXPO RUSSIA—went to the strongest.
The winner was Artur Voloshin with his project Research Complexes for Hydro-Electromechanical Parameters of a Small Fishing Catamaran for the Development of an Automatic Trawling System. His supervisor was Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor A.A. Nedostup.
Artur not only studies the hydrodynamics of ship hulls and commercial fishing gear but also investigates the parameters of electric motors. He is creating the technical basis for the first Russian automatic trawling system. Given the unavailability of foreign equivalents, his development could be a real breakthrough for the Russian fishing industry. The torque measurement plant created by Arthur is already showing excellent results, and trials with force and depth sensors are ahead.
The winner receives:
- official university representative status at the largest industry forum;
- a trip to St Petersburg to attend the Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia;
- personal consultations with leading experts.
We sincerely thank all the finalists for their outstanding projects:
- Dmitry Ivanov – growing juvenile steelhead in a recirculating aquaculture system;
- Elina Lazareva – biodegradable films made from fish scales;
- Svetlana Petrenko – fish species diversity in the Atlantic;
- Ioanna Chugunova – hydroacoustic monitoring of vendace.
We wish Artur a successful project defense at the federal level and new scientific horizons.

The event is being held as part of a federal budget subsidy to higher education institutions for the implementation of activities aimed at supporting student scientific societies.
