KSTU students came first in the Strength of Materials Olympiad
This year, the third and final round of the XXXXV All-Russian Student Strength of Materials Olympiad, with international participation, took place from 14 to 18 September at Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N.Yeltsin.
Representatives from 21 higher education institutions across various regions of Russia and the Kyrgyz Republic participated in the Olympiad.
A student team comprising Daniyal Rysaev, Katerina Shapovalova and Ekaterina Liganova, represented Kaliningrad State Technical University. A.I. Pritykin, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor at the Scientific and Educational Centre of Shipbuilding, Maritime Infrastructure and Equipment, prepared the team for the Olympiad.
This year, our university’s team faced more challenging preparation because it was formed from a group of only 80 students studying the strength of materials, while many of the other universities participating in the Olympiad had as many as 2,000 students studying this discipline.
Despite this, our team proved to be competitive and took first place in the team competition for the Northwestern Federal District, ahead of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov, the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, the Russian University of Transport (MIIT), Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University, Ural Federal University, Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and a number of others.
As well as the satisfaction of victory, the students enjoyed the aesthetic delights of excursions and walks around Yekaterinburg. They visited the Vysotsky Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Russia, the Sverdlovsk Academic Drama Theatre, and the spot where Europe and Asia divide. And, of course, our representatives had the chance to communicate with students from other participating cities.
The next Olympiad is planned to be held as an international event on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul, with the participation of teams from Central Asian countries, Belarus and China.
