Maritime Festival brought together more than 400 participants
Kaliningrad hosted the Maritime Festival, organised by the Student Scientific Society of KSTU.
These were two days of immersion in science, bringing together more than 400 students, scientists and everyone who is in love with the sea. Let's remember how it was.
On the first day, the focus was on inspiration and careers at KSTU's Boiling Point. On 27 October, the public talk Profprimerka motivated the students. Postgraduate students, a family of young scientists, Alexander Menshenin and Anastasia Kochina, and an activist from the Student Scientific Society Olesya Fedorova spoke honestly and openly about how science is integrated into their lives, where to look for resources, and why pursuing one's dreams is worthwhile.
The atmosphere was so sincere that the first-year students left with their eyes shining and the understanding that a long journey begins with a single step. After the discussion, the guests immersed themselves in practical activities: they played a maritime quiz, learnt how to tie nautical knots, and received cool souvenirs from the Student Scientific Society.
Day two. From the microworld to giant ships at the Museum of the World Ocean. On 28 October, a real adventure awaited the participants. Lyubov Kuleshova, a researcher from the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IO RAS), gave a fascinating lecture on foraminifera—tiny detective organisms that help scientists find oil and reconstruct the climate of the past.
Then the visitors went on a tour of the legendary ships:
- - They stood at the wheel on the navigation bridge.
- - They saw the heart of the Vityaz — its powerful engine.
- - They explored the secrets of navigation on the Irbensky lightvessel.
The day ended with a visit to the Depth Hall — a place where you can truly feel the challenge and greatness of the ocean depths. The festival gave us much more than just knowledge. It left us with a lot of emotions and inspiration, as well as confidence that marine science in our region has a bright future.
The event was held as part of the grant Programme of Events to Promote Maritime Science Specialities The Tide Is High (More volnuyetsya raz).
