Master’s student from KSTU spoke at a biotechnology forum
Biotechnology is becoming a key factor in Russia’s competitiveness. The BiotechForum 2026 student research forum, held in Almetyevsk from 14 to 16 April at the ALMET TECH Technology Centre of the ITMO Advanced Engineering School, demonstrated that. This platform, established in collaboration with the Higher School of Oil and focused on the development of biotechnologies and IT technologies, is used for various scientific events with a focus on their implementation.
Vadim Karlov, a student of the Food Biotechnology Department at KSTU, a second-year master's student in the Biotechnology training programme and a member of the Student Scientific Society, participated in the forum. In his report, Improving the Biotechnology of Processing Low-Quality Fruit, he demonstrated that the appropriate biotechnological methods for treating fruit secondary raw materials enable the production of a range of useful food and biologically active supplements. The presentation sparked lively discussions among scientists and expert entrepreneurs, who not only took an interest in the development but also offered recommendations for its implementation and further improvement.
This year, the forum operated under the Prime•er concept and aimed to unlock the potential of biotechnological developments by students from across Russia as well as to implement and develop the most ambitious projects – the prime era of each participant. At the event, students presented their papers, whilst experts evaluated the projects and shared their experience. Projects in the fields of biomedicine, industrial biotechnology, nanomaterials and agrobiotechnology were presented at the forum’s venues, and there were masterclasses on a wide variety of topics. All the developments demonstrated the significant potential of the biotechnology sector, the existence of promising ideas and approaches for tackling contemporary problems, and a readiness to solve them.
