Students of KSTU shipbuilding classes started their studies
The educational track of the University Project to create shipbuilding engineering classes has been launched in the Kaliningrad Region and Kamchatka.
On 1 September, pupils in 13 specialised shipbuilding engineering classes, created by the university in collaboration with other universities and industrial partners as part of the federal project ‘Development of Key Knowledge-Intensive Technologies and Advanced Training and Retraining of Qualified Personnel in the Field of Transport Mobility’.
The partnership format will provide a pre-professional course in engineering in the field of shipbuilding for more than 300 secondary school students from the Kaliningrad and Kamchatka regions, with the participation of leading scientists and employees of shipbuilding companies.
Earlier this year, Kaliningrad State Technical University was among the winners of a competition among universities to create engineering classes for the shipbuilding industry in collaboration with industrial and academic partners.
The university proposed project aims to develop a system of continuous engineering education, considering the strategic objectives of the shipbuilding industry in the Kaliningrad and Kamchatka regions. The project has received 26 million rubles from the federal budget.
Preparations for this event took several months, with project meetings and consultations held with the school and university administrations and industrial partners. They formed the project's infrastructure, created an Engineering Competencies Centre, and provided the laboratory base with specialised equipment. Experts and mentors underwent advanced training courses on modern technologies and software in the industry.
Particular attention was paid to working with parents. During more than 10 parent meetings, the team presented opportunities to participate in the project.
In general, the project will also include children from preschool age, primary school, secondary school and graduating classes in the 2025-2026 academic year. In total, more than 1,500 schoolchildren from the project's participating regions will be involved in various formats. In particular, for schoolchildren and teachers in the Kamchatka Territory, with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Kamchatka Territory in partnership with Kamchatka State Technical University, a series of off-site events will be organised (quests, professional trials, a ‘profnavigator’ campaign). They will take place in general education institutions of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Participation in the programme will allow children to gain knowledge and practical experience under the guidance of experienced university lecturers and company experts in specialised classrooms and laboratories. The proposed model is based on the mechanism of ‘professional trials’ in engineering - from the idea to the design solution and practical implementation with the formation of a portfolio of achievements for the future applicant.
The solemn initiation of engineering class students into shipbuilding engineers will take place on 30 October.
The event is being held as part of a grant for the creation of shipbuilding engineering classes.
