BFFSA celebrates its 60th anniversary
On 30 May, celebrations were held to mark the 60th anniversary of KSTU's separate unit, the Baltic Fishing Fleet State Academy. Festive events took place on the university's grounds to mark this significant event.
The history of the institution began on 28 May 1966, when the order ‘On the organisation of Kaliningrad Higher Maritime School of the Ministry of Fisheries of the USSR’ was signed. In 1969, the institution was renamed Kaliningrad Higher Maritime Engineering School, and in 1991, it was transformed into the Baltic Fishing Fleet State Academy. The sailing training ship Kruzenstern was transferred to the academy’s assets. In 2012, by Order No. 97 of the Federal Agency for Fishery dated 25 January, a reorganisation was carried out, and as a result, the Baltic Fishing Fleet State Academy became a structural unit of Kaliningrad State Technical University (KSTU). Over the past decades, the university has trained tens of thousands of specialists, many of them representing maritime dynasties.
Currently, the academy is home to over two thousand cadets and students studying maritime and shore-based specialities. The educational institution has operational control over two four-masted barques, the Kruzenshtern and the Sedov, on which cadets from Rosrybolovstvo universities across the country have their first shipboard training. Graduates of the academy hold senior positions in various institutions in Kaliningrad and the region.
The celebrations began with a ceremonial assembly in front of the academy’s main entrance. Representatives of the Federal Agency for Fishery came to congratulate the cadets and students and present awards: A.A. Baranov, Head of the Department of Science and Aquaculture, and S.V. Kotyukh, Head of the West-Baltic Territorial Administration. The Acting Rector of KSTU, A.G. Mnatsakanyan, congratulated the cadets, students and staff of the academy. More than 70 academy staff members received departmental awards.
Following the ceremony, the guests were invited to the recently refurbished club, where the festivities continued. To mark the occasion, creative groups and staff from KSTU had prepared a spectacular concert.
