KSTU held two masterclasses for school pupils
The Department of Technosphere Safety and Environmental Engineering at Kaliningrad State Technical University hosted a careers guidance event for school pupils. The pupils were able to immerse themselves in the world of engineering sciences and life safety issues. Two engaging masterclasses were organised for the guests.
The masterclass From Dam to Socket took place in the hydraulics and engineering hydrology laboratory. The school pupils learnt about the structure of a hydraulic flume and discovered the principles behind converting water energy into electricity. The practical part attracted particular attention: the pupils built a hydro-generator impeller themselves, experiencing first-hand how the mechanical energy of a water flow is converted into electrical energy.
The Academy without Danger masterclass focused on labour protection and first aid issues. The pupils learnt how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and worked with a combined device for measuring noise levels, light levels, temperature and humidity. They also learnt about modern personal protective equipment used in industrial environments.
Throughout the event, the pupils were highly engaged, asked plenty of questions and participated enthusiastically in the intensive programme. Such sessions help pupils make an informed choice of their future careers and introduce them to the relevant engineering training programmes at KSTU.
