On October 15–16, the Student Scientific Society of KSTU hosted an international student scientific conference titled Ecosystems of the Future: Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Development.

The conference featured two thematic sections:

Energy of the Future — for young researchers developing autonomous energy systems, hydrogen technologies, smart grids, and solutions for Russian isolated coastal territories.

Ecobiotechnologies for Ecosystem Sustainability — for those working on biotechnologies, bioresource engineering, and agricultural engineering aimed at the sustainable development of coastal regions. Topics included aquaponics and mariculture, sustainable crop cultivation on saline soils, bioremediation of oil-contaminated sites, the use of microalgae for CO2 sequestration, zero-waste processing of byproducts from the fisheries and agro-industrial sectors, and "sea-to-land" closed-loop systems.

The sections encompassed a wide range of youth-led research at the intersection of energy, biology, and ecology, all focused on the sustainable development of Russia’s coastal regions.

The geographical diversity of the participants is a particular point of pride. Students from Uzbekistan, India, and Oman participated in the conference remotely.

The event was held as part of the federal budget subsidy to higher education institutions for the implementation of activities aimed at supporting student scientific societies.
