KSTU signed an agreement to make a film about the Kruzenshtern

At the main academic building of Kaliningrad State Technical University, our university and the film production company Vertikal signed an agreement regarding the production of a feature film. A.G. Mnatsakanyan, Acting Rector of KSTU, and E.P. Maskina, CEO of the film production company, signed the document.

In 2027, the four-masted barque Kruzenshtern is once again set to serve for a time as a film set during the production of a large-scale feature-length adventure film, Kruzenshtern. Millennium Regatta, dedicated to historical events that took place 26 years ago.

The film’s plot is based on real events. During The Tall Ships Races in 2000, the participants had to navigate a challenging route from Halifax to Amsterdam. The Russian sailing ship was leading the race. However, circumstances at sea forced our vessel out of the race for almost two days. The crew of the Kruzenshtern rescued 22-year-old trainee Ioanna, who had fallen from the mast onto the deck of the Polish training ship Pogoria. A storm, which prevented the Polish barquentine from approaching the Kruzenshtern, complicated the operation – as a result, the seamen had to use lifeboats.

Despite a long delay and the significant lead held by their rivals, the barque, under the command of Captain G.V. Kolomensky, continued the race, navigated a dangerous route and won the regatta.
