KSTU team won at the All-Russian Olympiad in Applied Mechanics
A team of students from KSTU participated in the third and final round of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Applied Mechanics with international participation, which took place from 20 to 25 April 2026 at Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU).
Nineteen teams from various countries and regions of Russia, including the Republic of Kazakhstan, Moscow, St Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Samara, Perm, Belgorod, Rostov, Tyumen, Khabarovsk, Norilsk and a number of other cities, arrived to compete in the Olympiad. The total number of participants in the Olympiad was 91.
The intellectual competition was held with the support of the Coordination Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (Minobrnauka) for the area of education Engineering, Technologies and Technical Sciences.
The participants competed in solving problems on theoretical mechanics and strength of materials; they also demonstrated their design skills in practice during the engineering competitions.
Kaliningrad State Technical University was represented by a team of students comprising Kirill Kuleshov, Ekaterina Liganova, Vyacheslav Putilin and Semen Gorbunov. The team was prepared for the Olympiad throughout the academic year by A.I. Pritykin, Doctor of Engineering Sciences and Professor at the Scientific and Educational Centre of Shipbuilding, Maritime Infrastructure and Equipment. Three of the students had already taken part in the Olympiad on strength of materials in 2025 and had previous experience of winning competitions. In theoretical mechanics, assistance with preparation was provided by I.B. Martynova, Associate Professor at the Theory of Mechanisms and Machines and Machine Parts Department.
Our team took first place together with the team from Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The organising committee of the Olympiad decided to award two first places.
During the Olympiad, the students also broadened their professional horizons by visiting a number of enterprises in St Petersburg — industrial partners of SPbPU: United Design Institute – AO AtomenergoProekt, AO Scientific Research Institute of Command Devices, and AO Concern CSRI Elektropribor.
Thus, the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Applied Mechanics provided a platform for the exchange of experience and ideas, as well as for strengthening ties between students, lecturers and industry representatives.
