KSTU students' development to appear in a well-known retail chain
VkusVill recently summarised the results of the latest phase of the Collab youth project for 2025 and the FarmClub programme for the 2026 season. Students from specialised universities in Russia and CIS countries, as well as young professionals, went through the entire product development process—from the initial idea to the commercial launch. The first new products they created have already appeared on shop shelves and in the chain’s online catalogue.
Following the results of the season, two products created by young professionals earned their well-deserved place on VkusVill’s shelves. One of them is a pearl barley onigiri from Kaliningrad.
This is a culinary creation by students from KSTU. It will soon be available on shop shelves. The combination of a traditional Japanese shape and a grain (barley) that is unusual for this type of dish makes this product appealing both to those who enjoy trying new things and to health-conscious consumers.
The team that developed the onigiri included A. Bogdanov and A. Baghdasaryan. They created this Asian-style snack using pearl barley, prawns and surimi. I.M. Titova, Head of the Food Technology Department, supervised the student team.
