Valeria Bertova and Peter Chen, master's students of the direction Agronomy, took part in the largest annual forum on soil science, Dokuchaev's Youth Readings, which was held in the northern capital of Russia.

The event was held from February 28 to March 1 at St. Petersburg State University and the Central Museum of Soil Science, named after V.V. Dokuchaev (St. Petersburg), a branch of the Federal Scientific Centre (V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute).

The conference united more than 200 students, postgraduates and young scientists from 20 different regions of Russia: Moscow, Perm, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen and Tula, as well as a number of foreign countries such as Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Nigeria.

In six sections, problems and achievements in the field of chemical and physical properties of soils and methods of their research, geography of genesis and classification of soils, information technologies and GIS in soil science, modern agrotechnologies in agriculture were discussed.

Our master's students adequately represented KSTU with their reports on topical issues Potential and actual areas of arable land subject to waterlogging in the western part of the Kaliningrad region and The suitability of fallow soils of the lake-glacial plain for their re-involvement in agricultural use. The scientific supervisor of our students was O.A. Antsiferova, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Department of Agronomy and Agroecology.

During the conference, the master's students interacted with their colleagues from other regions and countries, visited lectures of leading Russian scientists, and took part in informative and patriotic activities at the Central Museum of Soil Science under the guidance of the oldest soil scientist, Professor B.F. Aparin.
